The Moscow City Court has set bail in the amount of 50 million roubles, upon posting of which my son Vasily Aleksanyan can be freed from detention. For now I do not wish to discuss whether this decision is lawful or just. I simply wish to say that the amount of bail exceeds the financial possibilities of our family. Simply said, we do not have such funds. Vasily is not able to come up with such funds himself either, since all his property is under a freezing order and he remains fatally ill and in detention.I am forever grateful to all those who have offered assistance to our family, and to all those who have not been indifferent to the tragic fate of my son. Both Vasily’s family and his lawyers have been receiving calls and letters with offers of assistance in collecting funds to post his bail. For moral reasons we had avoided making any public appeal for assistance. On the other hand, during our silence confusion and speculation has arisen in the media concerning the bank accounts that were opened to collect funds to post bail for Vasily Aleksanyan.
